70S/80S FASHION INSPIRATION

I have picked out a few of my anties photographs of her, my uncles and my mum in the late 70s early 80s and are using them for inspiration. i like these years in particular because i feel garments were very colourful, and classy and interesting.

This photo of my auntie, uncle and his sister gives me inspiration on colours and patterns as the 80s was very out there and vibrant, which appeals to me as i find it fun and makes an out fit look interesting.

The 80s brought big hair bold colours and glasses, which i think looked amazing i really gave the 80s there own iconic statement pieces.
This photo was taken in the late 70s, my family here are sporting nutral colours, fur and knee length garments. i love this style as its classy, and feminim.
My mum here is in the late 80s, sporting a white two piece and chunky knit.
I really love my aunties suit here as  the bold panel colours and black and red contrast really stands out and looking very unique and interesting.
This is a photo of my uncle in the 70s, I've chosen this as a photo of inspiartion as the curtains in the back show the popular floral design often owned by people in the 70s. i feel this pattern could be changed up to be made more modern with the modification of size and colour and could be used in interesting ways on garments.

70S FASHION

Although the hippie look was very popular it was not worn by everyone. Many women still liked to dress up in1940s movie star glamour while other women wore simple casual fashions. In early 1970s trends for women included fitted blazers  long and short dresses, mini skirts and maxi gowns. Pastel colors were most commonly used for this style of clothing, such as mauve, peach, green, pink, yellow and white.
This is a photo of my nan in the early 70s, wearing a peach two pice, including a long dress and fitted blazer.

70S FASHION, DOLLY PARTON AND PRINTS

The 70s
The 70s took on the hippy look from the late 60s making bell bottomed flares and sleeves, bright colours, and floral patterns all very popular.

Dolly Parton in the 70s sporting flares, bell bottoms and sleeves, floral, bright and pastel coloured fabrics.  Popular floral 70s patterned fabric that was used for home decor and curtains. These are my hans curtains that she has from the 70s representing the popular bright floral design.

FABRICS

Denim
Denim is a very popular fabric that is produced in many different garments including jeans and jackets. Denim is a sturdy cotton twill which has its weft threads passing under two or more warp threads. The twill weaving then creates a diagonal ribbed effect.

Wool
Wool is a natural fibre that comes from the sheep. Wool is a crimped elasticated fibre and grows in the form of staple fibres (short and fluffy). The crimped texture of wool causes it to be bulky and warm and it also is able to trap air inside. Wool is used for a lot of garments including Jumpers, scarves, and gloves.

Organza
Organza is a sheer thin fabric that is very light weight and sheer.
The fabric is a plain weave and is often made from silk.
Organza is often used on garments such as wedding dresses, and ball gowns

CURVED SEAMS

In our textiles lesson we were experimenting with the use of curved seams and learnt how to sew one.

Once we created a curved seam we worked with manican to see the different ways in which we could apply It in a garment.
I chose to use my curve as a shoulder pad, playing with the width and hight to create different looks.

OVERLOCKER

Using the over locker was really interesting as the machine cuts off and finishes raw edges. I enjoy using the overlocker as I like the look it gives to agarment and seam. We learnt how to use the machine correctly and how to remove the fabric by running it off the machine to avoid accidents with the blade.

OPEN AND CLOSED SEAMS

In our fashion lesson we practised with open and closed seams and also used the over locker to finish them.
We also practiced with sewing lines and created a square getting large to small, helping me with smaller stitches, and bends and corners.

EUROPEAN FASHION

Fashion in the 1650s was a lot more formal and consisted of the men wearing coats, waistcoats and breeches, and the women wore long waitedbodists with long draped skirts.
I found this photo online under 'European fashion 1650' this photo portrays what fashion was like during this era and I really like how their dresses were off the shoulder kind of like what we wear today.
